How to get the perfect Bikini Line

Summer is well on its way, and every shop is gearing up to stock swimwear, shorts and dresses. Every woman is looking for the perfect beachwear to flaunt this summer, either by the beach or by the pool.

But picking out the best swimwear to wear at the pool or beach is just one part of the equation – the other part is getting your bikini line ship-shape and smooth. The bikini area comes into focus the moment you don a swimsuit, so it has to be perfectly clean and hair-free – pubic hair on display is not a pretty sight, and it can get pretty embarrassing for everyone!

The easiest thing to do is to book a salon appointment and get your trusted beautician to wax the area for you, making you ready for swimsuit season. But this is expensive and time consuming. You might consider clearing your bikini line by yourself at home; it is quite easy to do so and you can be hairless for up to 28 days. Besides, you can do it in the comfort and privacy of your own home, especially if you’re using Veet cold wax strips. The strips are very easy to use, and you can save yourself a packet of money as well! Take a look at the guide we’ve compiled on waxing your bikini line at home.

      Step by Step

Before you start, make sure that your bikini line hair is at least a quarter of an inch long. Any shorter, and the wax might not adhere to the hair properly[1]. Take a shower before you begin, and use a gentle exfoliator to remove any trapped dirt, dried sweat or dead skin. Once these are removed, the wax sticks to the hair properly. If you have oily skin or if you feel your skin is still a little damp, you can apply some powder on the skin to soak up the excess moisture. The wax is then able to attach to the hair instead of sticking to the skin[2].

Choose a comfortable spot to wax. Lay a towel on your bed so that the wax doesn’t make a mess everywhere. You will need to lie down but also see what you are doing, so lay down on the bed with feet on the floor, and a pillow under your head so that it is raised enough to give visibility. If you can, you can position a mirror on your bikini line area to see better in the hard-to-reach areas.

When using cold wax strips, start by warming the strip between your hands first. The wax loosens a little when you do this. Now remove the plastic covering and place the strip on the area that you wish to remove hair from. Pat the strip firmly into place, then hold the skin tight. Grip the strip on the pull tab and pull the strip away quickly against the direction of hair growth.

You may not get every single hair with waxing – some hair is short and quite stubborn! But that does not mean that you should wax repeatedly in the same area – this can cause soreness and even bruising[3]. If there are any hairs left behind, you can use a pair of tweezers to remove them. Once the area is completely smooth, wipe the skin using a finishing wipe that is provided with the pack of Veet’s Ready-to-use cold wax strips.

You can soothe your skin a little more after waxing by applying an aloe vera based gel or lotion. The gel soothes the angry skin considerably. You can exfoliate the skin after a couple of days, so that there is no ingrown hair.[4]

So there you have it – your skin is now completely hair free. So you can be super confident, ready to rock your new swimsuit and make the most of the sun this summer!
